Hey Reader,
Back again with another newsletter for you.
I wanted to share a personal update with you.
You may have noticed that I've been a little less active on social media lately.
Recently my grandfather passed away in the UK, and because I'm in Australia I attended the funeral via livestream last week.
That was brutal and has really knocked the wind out of me...
Even more so because he was my mum's father, and my mum passed away in 2017.
So with my grandfather gone, I'm feeling like I'm losing my connection to her.
Anyway, I'm heading to the UK to be with my family on December 1st so I'm doing my best to keep soldiering on until then.
I still wanted to show up with a newsletter for this week
If you're still reading, thanks for sticking around 🙂
Here is a mindset shift that made such a huge difference for me when I started my photography and content creation journey.
The honest truth is that this is a difficult journey, but early on I realised:
If you look for problems, you’ll find them.
If you look for solutions, you’ll find them.
Our brains will always find what we decide to search for.
Take this common problem that I hear from people as an example:
❌ “I can’t find any cars to shoot.”
Rather than dwelling on that problem, I flipped it:
✅ “How can I find some cars to shoot?”
And suddenly, possibilities open up:
I could:
- Visit car dealerships
- Go to a car meet
- Walk around my city and look for interesting cars
- Ask my friends and family if I can shoot theirs cars
Another big challenge that I hear all the time is:
❌ “I don’t have a camera” or “My gear isn’t good enough.”
Flip it to:
✅ “How can I create with what I already have?”
Then solutions start to appear instantly:
- Use my phone to shoot and edit
- Borrow a camera from a friend or family member
- Buy older secondhand gear that fits my budget
The problems don't disappear, but they do transform.
That’s the power of what I call The Solution Mindset.
Here’s how to put it into practice:
- Catch yourself whenever you hear “I can’t” or “there’s no way.”
- Flip the script by asking “how can I?” instead.
- List at least 3 solutions in 60 seconds, no excuses.
- Act on one immediately, even if it feels small.
- Repeat until it becomes automatic.
The more you do this, the more opportunities will show up in your creative journey.
What’s one problem you can flip into a solution today?
If you read this far, I hope you got some value from this and I'll see you in the next one.
Ben ✌️
