Hey Reader,
Happy Wednesday! Every week I share something to help you grow as a photographer and creator. Today, I want to share three rules that built my creative career.
But first for context, let's start with a story of my journey...
In just 1 year and 7 months, I went from being stuck in a 9-5 I hated to becoming a full-time photographer and content creator.
Three years ago, I didn’t even own a camera. I was 29, working a job that looked great on paper (six-figure salary, yearly promotions, etc) but I felt completely stuck.
That pushed me to search for more, and that’s when I discovered my passion for photography.
I bought my first camera in December 2021.
By February 2022, I made the decision to give this everything.
- I posted daily.
- I shot every weekend.
- I did the quiet work when no one was watching.
And after 11 months of all-in effort, I’d only grown from 125 followers to 3,000.
But then in January 2023, I posted a video at 2:17am that blew up.
3,000 followers → 100,000 in 4 days.
By the end of the year, I’d passed 500k followers, 100k YouTube subscribers, and made over $160k… all while still working my 9–5.
That whole experience taught me these three lessons:
📌 Quiet work is still working. Even when it feels like nothing is happening, your skills, content, and consistency are compounding.
📌 When you try, you either win or you learn. You only fail if you quit. Or if you sit on the sidelines and never actually give it a shot.
📌 Momentum is built in silence. The opportunities come later, but they come because of the unglamorous quiet work you put in now.
If you’re in that season where it feels like nothing is working, keep going. Your future self will thank you.
Ben ✌️
